LAHORE: The Chinese hockey team ended its short tour of Pakistan, suffering another defeat in the fourth Test played at the National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
Pakistan beat the visitors 2-1 to clean-sweep the four-match Test series to win the ‘Friendship’ Trophy.
Pakistan Hockey Federation secretary Asif Bajwa said more than the results, he was happy that the series went off smoothly and ended without any incident.
“We didn’t face any security issues and the way people responded to the matches shows that security is getting better and Pakistan can host more international events,” he said.
The Chinese hockey team became the first foreign team to play international matches in Pakistan after a gap of nearly seven years as the country had last hosted an international event in 2004.
Shakeel Abbasi and Fareed Ahmed netted for Pakistan who led the first half 2-1. Dong Yang scored the lone goal for China.
The visitors played the first two tests in Karachi and Faisalabad before finally ending the series in Lahore.
Bajwa said the PHF would be inviting some more teams to play in Pakistan before the London Olympics next year.
“We are hopeful of getting positive responses from our neighbouring countries as well,” he said.
