Biography: In 1953, Louis S. Peterson became the first African American playwright to have a dramatic play produced on Broadway when "Take a Giant Step" premiered. Shortly thereafter, he became one of the first African American writers to work in prime time network television. He received an Emmy nomination in 1957 for writing "Joey," an episode of the anthology series, "Goodyear Television Playhouse."
